East-facing coastal town at ~220 ft elevation with shorefront on the Kauaʻi Channel from Hanamaʻulu Bay to Nawiliwili Bay.
Kaua'i High School, Kaua'i War Memorial Convention Hall, Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School, Wilcox Elementary, and Kaua'i Community College — Līhuʻe is Kauaʻi's central shelter hub with more designated refuge capacity than any other town.

Multiple routes: Route 50 west toward Kalāheo, Route 56 north toward Kapaʻa, Route 58 south into central Līhuʻe. The airport (LIH), harbor (Nawiliwili), and hospital (Wilcox Medical Center) are all located here.
During Iniki (1992), amateur-radio volunteers based in Līhuʻe supported local-government communications during the first week of recovery. As the county seat, Līhuʻe is the coordination center for all Kauaʻi emergency response and typically maintains services longer than outlying towns during a major event.
Līhuʻe's central position, higher elevation, and shelter concentration make it the safest single location to evacuate to on Kauaʻi. If you're on the north shore or west side and can reach Līhuʻe before roads close, that's typically the best option.
